Love…

God… Love…

Underneath the needs of being human… air, food, water, clothing, housing, warmth, coolness… there is a need for love. I crave love… which for the longest time now, I’ve equated with idolatry and selfishness and separateness from God.

Now I’m wondering if this love that I crave… and the presence of God that I crave… aren’t in fact the same craving…

God’s command, labeled the greatest command… is love God, love others, love self… Why? Why is loving, being loved, sharing love the greatest command? Why is love at the tops for God? The creator of all this: humans, earth, animals, space, sun, moon, stars… and yet he says if there’s one thing he wants from us, it is to love, be loved, share love.

And yet, my first instinct is to push away, look away, draw stay away boundaries. My first instinct as a human is not to love, feel love, or share love. Yet, something magical happens when with my children or parents or aunt or uncle or cousins or dear friends or even when with my cats… I’m loving them… naturally. And I’m finding that as I search for God, I’m loving the other humans in my sphere, strangers, slowly yet naturally.

Could it be that through love we bring ourselves into the presence that is with us always?

Could it be that through love we are brought into that presence?

Could it be that through love we are given love?

Could it be that through love, joy and faith and peace and hope appear?

Could it be that through love we experience God?

Could it be that through love God can reveal his presence safely to us humans?

Could it be that love IS God?
