Bright, Shining Stars

Only when falling on my back did I stop and see the sky… Mark Nepo

Death has knocked me to my knees, with pain reeling me flat on my back. What do I see?

Life stopped, pain intensified, seeing diminished…self absorption encompassed me.

But now, life is starting to flow, my eyes glimpsing the stars in the sky. Comfort, healing, peace, hope, joy, are the brightest stars in my sight. Family, friends, home, laughter, my dear son, twinkle through the dark. Flying, hiking, swimming, biking, sunshine, mountains, streams, owls, hummingbirds, flowers, cross the dark sky with flashes as bright shooting stars.

The eternal sunrise is approaching bringing a bright and glorious day; a day to rise, embrace, love, laugh, serve, as the glow of these stars is etched upon my soul.

  1. I’ve not yet survived a pain as great as yours, Donna, but you’ve reminded me of a particular difficult year more than decade ago. I had to fight daily against discouragement and self-pity. At the end of the year I counted up the blessings in my “God Is Faithful” journal that I’d kept for over 25 years at that point. There were more entries that year than any previously–bright, shining stars against the darkness indeed. Praise God for his gracious goodness! I’m so glad you’re seeing bright stars in your piece of sky as well, Donna.

    1. So lovely and loving, Nancy, truly bringing encouragement to my heart. Yes, I agree, the bright, shining stars do surround us in the dark valleys, until God’s light sets us on a new path. May I persevere…. Thankful that you persevered…
