A Conquering Hero

I’ve been reading A Full Hearted Life by Jake Owensby. He’s an amazing thinker and writer, whose books have brought life to me during my deep grief.

Now I realize that I do continually look for a strong person or group, that will stand protector over me during the struggles of this life. A church… a partner… a child… a friend… a man… a job… government leaders… police… insurance… even money.

Us humans have always wanted a strong protector, to fight for us and defend us. Humans of old wanted a King. Humans of Christ’s time wanted a fierce, fighting King to take down all human oppressors. Now many humans rely on politicians of either party, to step in and lead in decrying harmful ways and establish strong leadership. A conquering hero appeals…

Yet when asked regarding his leadership, Jesus replied Go tell what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk; those with a skin disease are cleansed; the deaf hear; the dead are raised; the poor have good news brought to them. Luke 7:22-23

Jesus, God, dear Spirit reveal a different perspective on protection, help, defending. Individuals were touched by Jesus, the ruling systems were not overthrown. This challenges me for where or who do I truly turn in times of struggle? Love? Do I turn to the love God holds for me? Do I trust the love God has for me? Do I expect the path of life to be cleared and smooth? Do I trust that when even walking amidst the travails, love will be walking with me?

Waking, I do mumble Come Lord Jesus, Come in the hopes of a new earth with no difficulties. Yet now I seek to recognize my God’s love accompanying me this day, for each day survived is truly a miracle of love.

  1. Yes…men are taught that they are supposed to protect-women taught that they need protection….Jesus taught to look to God and His show of love for us…

May we recognize God’s gifts in all seasons of our lives Donna!🙏🎄
